Renewable energy

Innvik AS has long had a vision of a climate-neutral production line. We will use clean, renewable hydropower in our production, which our collaboration with a local power supplier ensures.

A bioenergy plant has now been built in Innvik that supplies both heat and steam for our production. This is energy produced from forest resources that would otherwise have rotted in nature. Bioenergy is thus a CO2-neutral energy source - making us climate-neutral on all energy and heating.

It started with hydropower

Ever since the start in 1890, when Indvikens Uldspinderi was built along the Storelva river in Innvik, there has been a focus on renewable energy sources. Back then, wool was processed into yarn, with production based on hydropower. The factory was built by the river and used hydropower directly.

Since then, we have grown to become a leading textile manufacturer in Europe, with round-the-clock production that requires a lot of energy. We have moved production to larger premises and, since the 1960s, have used oil-fired steam to power our machines.

In 2023, we moved away from using fossil fuels and now only use renewable energy sources.

All electricity from local hydropower

Today, all electricity is supplied by our local power company Stryn Energi. We have a guarantee of origin that hydropower is supplied by the power company a few hundred meters from the factory.

This means that hydropower is not only renewable, but also short-distance.

Heating with bioenergy

We have moved away from oil-fired heating and are now using bioenergy, which is CO2 neutral. This gives us the opportunity to run our machinery with steam from the newly established bio plant in Innvik, which also heats the local school and nursing home.

With the bioenergy plant in place, we have a virtually climate-neutral production line, secured by renewable energy.
