Raw materials
Our products are made from sustainable raw materials. Our largest raw material is wool - it is 100% renewable and natural. We choose sustainability by, among other things, setting requirements for the entire value chain and always preferring environmentally friendly chemicals and dyes, while processing a larger proportion of the wool yarn in our own factory in Innvik.
Wool as a raw material
Wool is 100% natural and renewable. In fact, animal wool fiber is the most reused and recycled fiber in the world!
Lower energy and water use
It takes 18% less energy to produce wool yarn compared to polyester yarn and almost 70% less water to produce wool yarn compared to cotton.
100% renewable resource
Wool is "grown" from the simple mixture of sunshine, fresh air, grass and water.
Animal wool fiber is the most reused and recycled fiber in the world. It's 100% natural and renewable.
Does not form microplastics
Wool is 100% biodegradable, so it doesn't contribute to microplastic pollution in our oceans or on land.
Long service life
A wool fiber can bend up to 20,000 times before it breaks. This makes wool textiles highly durable, allowing them to retain their appearance for a long time.
Preferred upholstery fabric
Wool is a durable, comfortable and elastic upholstery fabric. Wool is also dirt-repellent and has self-cleaning properties thanks to its lanolin content. In addition, the fabric is flame retardant - and has a fine finish that gives a good sense of quality.
Strong traditions
Wool was a well-used and popular raw material even back in 1890, when Innvik started. Farmers delivered wool to the factory and Innvik delivered yarn back to the farmers.
For 130 years we have been producing textiles, with wool as an important raw material. So we handle wool with unique experience and respect.
From sheep to factory in Innvik
Innvik AS The wool yarn is sourced from spinning mills in Europe that have a value chain based on sustainable production, from shearing the sheep to spinning the wool into finished yarn.
The wool we choose comes from sheep in New Zealand and Australia, sheared by skilled farmers who focus on animal welfare.
The wool is sorted and classified by professionals. This craft requires long experience and is often passed on from generation to generation. It is crucial for a good end product.
The wool fibers are washed in Europe, at laundries that meet the requirements for EU Ecolabel certification. This shows that there is a high standard, which takes care of the environment throughout the process.
The wool fibers are spun into finished yarn at selected spinning mills in Europe. We have built up a long and close partnership with these mills. The yarn is spun in different ways, based on product development between Innvik and suppliers. This ensures a yarn quality that is adapted to the textile the customer wants and a unique product.
When the wool yarn arrives at Innvik, we know that the raw material is sustainably produced. We place high demands on our subcontractors, demands that are formulated in contracts with them.
This makes us confident that we are producing and delivering a product that is sustainable at every stage.
